HMS Trenchant S91
Leaving on an 8 month deployment and waved off by friends and famillies, we see HMS Trenchant S91 as she leaves her home port of Devonport Naval Base at Mutton Cove on 27th April 2017. HMS Trenchant is a Trafalgar Class Nuclear Submarine of the Royal Navy and is the third warship and second submarine to bare the name, being built by Vickers at Barrow-in-Furness and launched on 3rd November 1986, being commissioned on 14th January 1989. One of four Trafalgar class submarines, Trenchant is 280 feet long and has a displacement of 5800 tons and as part of the UK's nuclear deterrent is equipped with Tomahawk Block IV cruise missiles. Returning to her home base of Devonport, HMS Trenchant S91 passes Devil's Point on 10th July 2018. Her lengthy deployment has seen her operate in the North Pole, breaking through the metre thick Arctic ice for a major exercise where she joined two US submarines USS Connecticut and USS Hartford for the drills, co-ordinated by the US Navy's Arctic Submarine Laboratory. Ice Exercise 18 (ICEX) involved a series of demanding trials in the frigid climate of the Arctic Circle, designed to test submariners' skills in operating under the Arctic ice cap. HMS Triumph S93
HMS Triumph S93 is a 4,500 ton 'Trafalgar' Class Nuclear Submarine based at Devonport, and flanked by Ministry of Defence Police and a pair of tugs, Triumph leaves her home base at Devonport and passes Mutton Cove on 20th February 2017. HMS Triumph was returning to sea after maintenance and was preparing for conducting work-up training and trials at sea. Triumph is the latest and most capable of the fleet of four 'Trafalgar' Class submarines, and is the tenth Warship to bare the name, the original Triumph being a 58 gun galleon that was launched during the reign of Elizabeth I. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2obG8Bg_P0
