HMS Bristol D23
A tribute to the unique Royal Navy 'Bristol' class Type 82 Destroyer, HMS BRISTOL D23, which will shortly conclude its service as a training vessel at Whale Island in Portsmouth.
HMS Bristol D23 is a unique Royal Navy Type 82 Destroyer that is today berthed at Whale Island, Portsmouth and we see her from a harbour boat tour on 15th July 2017. The Type 82s were planned as a class of four large destroyers to escort the CVA-01 'Queen Elizabeth' class of aircraft carriers that were originally scheduled to come into service in the early 1970s. Launched on 30th June 1969, she was commissioned in 1973 and distinquished herself during the Falklands War, and was finally being paid off in 1991. Much larger than a standard Type 42 destroyer at 7100 tons (full), she was distinquished by her three funnel design, and is today used as a training and accomadation ship at Whale Island, Portsmouth. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gujB8JFmJIg
